The ship was built in 1939 as the yacht Trouper by Robert Jacob and Sons, City Island, New York for C. A. Tilt of Chicago, Illinois, the President of the Diamond T Motor Company.
Acquired by the Navy in 1940, the yacht was commissioned as USS PC-457 in 1941. She was sunk in a collision with the American freighter SS Norluna on 14 August 1941 near San Juan, Puerto Rico.
