Luis Montalbert-Smith is the former lead singer and main composer of the Costa Rican music group Gandhi.Montalbert-Smith began playing and studying piano at the age of six, inspired by his grandmother.Fact|date=January 2008 During highschool he took drum and singing lessons. He entered entered college to study sculpture, but left it shortly after to continue with his musical projects.

Montalbert-Smith, together with Federico Miranda, formed the band Gandhi in 1993, after some time of being friends. As a singer, he has a very particular voice, that is one of the trademarks of the band sound.
