Alec Taylor, Sr. (c. 1825 - c. 1895) was a highly successful British
Thoroughbred horse trainer . He first began working as a trainer for Sir Joseph Hawley in 1848 atFyfield, Wiltshire . Three years later he won theEpsom Derby , the first of what would be eleven wins in the fiveBritish Classic Races .In a career that lasted approximately fifty years, Alec Taylor trained winners of numerous other important English races. His son, Alec Jr., followed in his footsteps and would become even more successful.
