Govinda Chandra Dev ( _bn. গোবিন্দ চন্দ্র দেব), or G.C. Dev as he is popularly known as, (
January 1 ,1907 -March 26 ,1971 ) was aProfessor ofPhilosophy at theUniversity of Dhaka . He was abducted and executed in 1971 by thePakistan Army as part of a plan to eliminate theBangladesh i intelligentsia.Early life
G.C. Dev was born in the villate Lauta of the Panchakhanda Pargana (currently
Biyanibazar Upazila ) of Sylhet,East Bengal (currentlyBangladesh ).His ancestors were high-caste Brahmins who settled in Sylhet from Gujrat.
Education
In 1925, G.C. Dev passed the Entrance Examination in first division from Biani Bazar High English School. Later, in 1927, he passed Intermediate Examination from
Ripon College ,Kolkata . In 1929, GC Dev received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honours fromSanskrit College . In 1931, he received his Master of Arts in Philosophy fromCalcutta University . He graduatedsumma cum laude in both Bachelors and Masters. His Doctoral thesis was titled "Reason, intuition and reality", and for this, he received a PhD degree from Calcutta University in 1944.
