Shimmerly

A shimmerly is a sound effect commonly used in films and television programs to create tension. The sounds come from heavily processed percussion instruments - such as crash symbols with heavy reverb played in reverse. A common shimmerly can be heard in the UK in the "Roundup" weedkiller adverts. There are also frequent references to shimmerlies in the UK magazine FutureMusic.
