Mia Tan (born 30 November 1980) is a Singaporean model who represented her home country at the Miss Globe International 2006 pageant in Albania.
On her return trip, she was on Turkish Airlines Flight 1476 (TK 1476) when it was hijacked. Escaping unscathed, she was thrown into media limelight along with fellow beauty queens, Miss Philippines and Miss Malaysia, because of the ordeal. She wrote about the incident at her personal blog site.
Having spent her childhood years at Singapore Chinese Girls School, she studied for her GCE 'A' levels at Anglo-Chinese Junior College and went on to finish her bachelor degree in biology at the National University of Singapore.
Upon graduation in 2002, she went on to research work at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research A*STAR, but her passion for media and entertainment motivated her to take on acting classes in theatre and Drama from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Soon after, she appeared in local TV programs and a short film directed by locally acclaimed actor and aspiring director, Ix Shen, won second runner-up in Panasonic Film Fest 05.
