Frederic Mason Trench, 2nd Baron Ashtown (
25 December 1804 –12 September 1880 ), was an Irish peer.He was son of Francis Trench and Mary Mason, and nephew to
Frederic Trench, 1st Baron Ashtown . He wasHigh Sheriff ofGalway in 1840. While his claim to his uncle's title was admitted on12 July 1855 , he actually succeeded on1 May 1840 . Lord Ashtown died, aged 75, atClonodfoy (otherwise known asCastle Oliver ),County Limerick , and was buried at Woodlawn,County Galway , on17 September 1880 .Family
Frederic Mason Trench married twice, firstly on 29th August 1831 Harriet Georgiana Cosby (d. 1845), (daughter of Thomas Cosby of
Stradbally Hall,Co. Laois , and Charlotte Elizabeth Kelly) and secondly on 10th February 1852 Elizabeth Oliver Gascoigne, (daughter of RichardOliver Gascoigne ofParlington Hall , Aberford, near Leeds inYorkshire and Mary Turner), inAberford .Lord and Lady Ashtown lived much of the year at
Castle Oliver , Co. Limerick, Ireland (also known asClonodfoy ), which was built in 1845 by Elizabeth Oliver Gascoigne and her sister Isabella. Lord Ashtown died at Castle Oliver, but is buried in the Trench family mausoleum near Woodlawn, Co. Galway, his family seat. *Hon. Charlotte Elizabeth Trench (1832-1854)
*Hon. Harriet Mary Trench (d.1884), married Major Hon. Frederick Le Poer Trench, son of William Trench, 3rd Earl Clancarty, on 6 February 1883.
*Hon. Frederic Sydney Charles Trench (1839-1879), married Lady Anne Le Poer Trench, daughter of William Trench, 3rd Earl Clancarty on 30 April 1867. Their first son Hon. Frederic Oliver Trench became 3rd Baron Ashtown, their 2nd son Hon. William Cosby Trench inherited Castle Oliver (see above).
