Cecil Tate

Cecil Tate

Cecil Tate (May 1, 1908 — August 7, 1997) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a left-arm slow bowler who played for Derbyshire and Warwickshire.

Tate's first foray into cricket took him to the Peak District, where he played during the 1928 season for Derbyshire. The team were to win just six matches that season, and Tate was to stay out of first-class cricket until 1931, when he signed for Warwickshire. Despite performing well during the season, he was to take a year out and only appear once more in first-class cricket. Tate was a middle-order batsman for Derbyshire, while he transferred to the Warwickshire tailend.

Tate's father and brother were both Test cricketers, the eldest member of the family, Fred Tate, represented England in one Test in 1902, and his brother, Maurice Tate, had an eleven-year Test career, along with 25 years of service at Sussex.
