HIV /AIDS . He is aninfectious disease specialist, with expertise in HIV/AIDS,tuberculosis , liver disease, and tropical diseases. Before becoming director of the WHO Department of HIV/AIDS, De Cock was director of the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) inKenya from 2000 to 2006 and Director of the CDC Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, Surveillance and Epidemiology in Atlanta, Georgia from 1997 to 2000.
