"You've Been Framed" (or "All New You've Been Framed") is the name of a British television show, produced by Granada Television for ITV where viewers send in humorous home videos (often with somebody suffering pain, e.g. somebody falling over, incredibly common on the show). It is currently presented by the comedian Harry Hill.

During the show, the video clips are played and the people who sent them in receive £250. Before the advert break a "What Happens Next?" competition is played, where the viewers have to guess what happens after a clip is frozen. The answer is revealed after the break.

History

The debut show broadcast on ITV with Jeremy Beadle on April 16, 1990. Following its success, it was followed by a couple more 'one off' specials. These featured more audience participation, for example brief interviews with people who had been featured in clips. Soon a regular series followed (partly reflecting how camcorders were becoming more commonly owned by members of the public, allowing to more material being submitted).

The show started off being shown on Monday nights, then changing to Sunday nights in around 1997 then going to its current Saturday nights since 2001. It has also appeared in a weekday slot, at around 5 p.m. / 5:30 p.m. As well as the standard half-hour version, there have also been condensed shorter versions of various lengths (such as ten and fifteen minutes) to fill time in the schedules, particularly around sporting and other events, and to fill gaps in last minute schedule changes. The show is now broadcast on Saturday evenings with the title "All New You've Been Framed", despite the fact a majority of these Saturday airings are repeats.

The format has been tweaked in recent years. While the programme was presented by Jonathan Wilkes the studio audience voted for which clip was the best of the night at the end of the show, and the person who sent in the winning clip took home £1000. A segment was also introduced showcasing clips which had obviously been faked, called "Named, Framed and Shamed," which is now defunct. When the show was under Jonathan Wilkes, the studio was ditched in favour of an apartment setting. This was short lived, and visual continuity was replaced with a voice over, voiced by Harry Hill. Since Harry Hill took over presenting duties, there is no longer a set. Harry provides commentary on the clips via voice-over, which means more clips can be shown. (As well as a means of saving money.) This may mean, however, that the laughter track is now canned as no audience is seen during the show.

The show is similar in format to a number of shows worldwide, including "America's Funniest Home Videos" (the show which "You've Been Framed" was based on) and "Australia's Funniest Home Video Show". In a deal with various foreign producers of similar shows, many imported clips are used, in exchange for home-grown videos from the UK.

Submission of clips is freepost and in recent years the show began accepting clips via e-mail.

* In 1998, three Royal Mail employees were fired for intercepting videotapes sent in by members of the public and submitting them as their own. A viewer complained that their clip had been aired despite the fact they hadn't received the £250. An investigation revealed the employees had collectively intercepted at least 12 cassettes, worth a potential £3000.
