"So Yesterday" is a novel by Scott Westerfeld. First published: 2004

Characters

The main characters in this story are Jen and Hunter. A supporting characters is Mandy (Hunter's Boss). There is also a group of people who get in Jen and Hunter's way often, Hunter's parents, and Jen's sister.

Hunter is a "cool hunter" who searches for "Innovators" to take pictures of certain fashion statements, such as shoe laces. He is hired by a company to watch commercials for shoe companies and judge whether or not the trend will catch on.

Jen is an "Innovator" that runs into Hunter in the beginning of the book. She is spunky, witty, and adventurous. She rewires her brain to understand new ideas constantly.

Plot

Hunter met Jen and takes her to his job. They watch an ad and Jen comments on it. Mandy has a feeling that Jen could be of some use to them so they agree to meet again in Chinatown. When Hunter and Jen arrive, they discover Mandy's cellphone in an abandoned building, but not Mandy. The two use their skills to try to find Mandy and are thrown into a web of conspiracy directed at the heart of consumer's culture.

The story also features a part with a simalariity to Episode 37 of the Pokémon anime which caused seizures to over 600 Japanese children.
