Jean-Luc Brédas [http://ec.europa.eu/research/eurab/cvbredas.html] is a Belgian chemist and professor at Georgia Tech in the
United States . He studied chemistry and obtained a PhD at the University of Namur, Belgium (B.S.1976 ; PhD,1979 ). His research deals with the structural, electronic, and optical properties of novel organic (nano) materials with promising characteristics in the field ofelectronics ,photonics , andinformation technology .Jean-Luc Brédas is among the top 100 most cited chemists in the world, and is included in the list of the Highly Cited Researchers for Chemistry [http://hcr3.isiknowledge.com/formViewCharacteristic.cgi?table=Publication&id=1859&link1=Biography&link2=View%20Publications&nav=p1] . He is Fellow of the
American Association for the Advancement of Science , theAmerican Physical Society , and theOptical Society of America . In1997 , he was awarded theFrancqui Prize on Exact Sciences.
