The basic schedule at Wilson now contains seven periods, but as always, an optional "Zero Period" is available upon request, for early morning courses. Wednesdays and Thursdays are "block days", during which students attend 4 classes on Wednesday, each lasting one and a half hours, and 3 classes on Thursday, those lasting one and a half hours as well. The school day at Wilson used to consist of 6 class periods, but it no longer does. A wide variety of courses are offered, the most notable category being fine and applied arts.
Publications
Wilson's publications department includes the Troyan (Yearbook) and Statesman (Newspaper). Both are self-sufficient, student-run and deadline-based classes which teach pupils to solve real-world publication problems as if they were an employee of a small business. The Wilson Statesman is currently on Volume 51, and has produced six issues in the 2006-2007 school year, the latest of which was released on March 23, 2007. Annually, the Troyan staff puts out the Wilson Yearbook, and they too are readying their fifty-first edition. Rivalry between the publications has caused each to recruit new writers and photographers, which in turn brings more talent to each. Both publications are considered very high quality for the high school level. The Statesman regularly earns awards of Merit at the national level.
