- Heung Yee Kuk
The Heung Yee Kuk (zh-t|t=鄉議局; lit. 'Rural Assembly') is a statutory advisory body representing the
indigenous inhabitant s of theNew Territories inHong Kong .Colloquially shortened to the 'Kuk'.
History
The Heung Yee Kuk was established by the Heung Yee Kuk Ordinance (Chapter 1097) and first enacted
December 11 ,1959 (originally as 45 of 1959).Over the years the organisation has dabbled in charity work. For example, in 1966 it donated HK$660,000 to found the Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School, in
Yuen Long .The Heung Yee Kuk also provides a functional constituency in the
Hong Kong Legislative Council elections. Eachrural committee has a representative on the body.External links
