Benton Murdoch Spruance (
June 25 ,1904 –December 6 ,1967 ) American painter, printmaker, architect.Born and died in Philadelphia. Long-term faculty member and Chairman of the Arts Department at
Beaver College inJenkintown, PA , as well as Chairman of the Printmaking Department of thePhiladelphia College of Art . As a printmaker, Spruance was known for his innovations in colorlithography with series of works relating to mythological and religious themes, as well as portraiture.
