George Elliott Hagan (
May 24 ,1916 -December 26 ,1990 ) was an Americanpolitician , businessman and farmer.Hagan was born in Sylvania, Georgia and attended the
University of Georgia University of Georgia in Athens. He served in theGeorgia House of Representatives for five terms and theGeorgia Senate for one term. Hagan resigned from his state representative position to join theUnited States Army as a member of the Signal Corps for two years.After his military service, Hagan served in numerous other state government positions and also worked in the insurance and financial planning industry and several agricultural pursuits. He served on the board of trustees for
Tift College .Hagan won election in 1960 to the
United States House of Representatives as a Democrat servingGeorgia's 1st congressional district in the87th United States Congress . Hagan was reelected for five additional terms before losing his reelection bid in 1972. He returned to Sylvania and remained there until his death onDecember 26 ,1990 .ee also
