- Koněprusy Caves
Koněprusy Caves ("Koněpruské jeskyně") is a
cave system inBohemian Karst ,Czech Republic . It is located southwest ofPrague , 6 km south ofBeroun in theCentral Bohemian Region . The name derives from nearby village ofKoněprusy .The three-level cave system inside the "Zlatý kůň" hill has developed in
limestone ofDevonian age. With the length of 2 km and vertical range of 70 m it is the largest cave system inBohemia , but not in the Czech Republic (there are much larger cave systems inMoravian Karst ). The caves were discovered during expansion of nearby limestonequarry in1950 and subsequently made accessible to public in1959 . The tour of caves is 620 m long and lasts one hour.Many animal bones from
Pleistocene period, as well as human remains aged about 13,000 years have been found during exploration of the caves. In the upper level of the caves a workshop ofcoin forger from about1470 has been discovered.External links
