The Isle of Wight football team represents the Isle of Wight at the biannual Island Games, which it won in 1995. The Isle of Wight is not a member of FIFA or UEFA, it is an island within England and plays under the auspices of the Football Association, the governing body for football in England. That national team is notable for the fact that it plays an unusual 2-3-4-2 formation, which makes them very good at attacking but less effective at defending. This formation was partly due to the presence of Serbian born Ivica Monaravic in the mid 1990s, who's energy in the holding midfield position meant less players were needed in defence. He now works as a taxi driver in Newport, and despite being offered to sign for a second division Serbian team he continued playing amatuer football in his adopted country before giving up football at the age of 44. His influence in developing the holding midfield position is underestimated by the football media, despite Claude Makélélé revealing he had studied Monaravic's stlye as a youth.fact|date=August 2008
