James B. Burkholder (
22 October 1918 –9 May 2006 ) was a former US Army officer who, after retiring, became involved in peace and social justice issues.After receiving a degree in accounting from the
University of Pennsylvania , he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve. He went on active duty before the United States enteredWorld War II . Following WWII, he became a career officer and received a Regular Army commission. He retired from the Army in 1973 with the rank ofColonel .When the
Sanctuary movement started inTucson, Arizona in the 1980s, he became a supporter and even helped to transport and house Central American political refugees.In 1987 he joined of
Veterans for Peace , and was soon elected president of the organization's Tucson chapter. Later he served as the national president of VFP.External links
