Adam’s Ribs

Adam’s Ribs

Adam’s Ribs” is the 11th episode of the third season of M*A*S*H, named after a fictional Chicago restaurant near Dearborn Street Station.

Sick and tired of being served the same meal (fish or liver and onions) for eleven days straight, Hawkeye throws a fit and hatches a plan to get some ribs and barbecue sauce shipped in from a restaurant in Chicago. Hawkeye has to pull a few strings and Trapper John has to call a friend with whom he claims he "had a three night stand". Trapper tells his friend to mark it "RUSH: MEDICAL SUPPLIES". When Hawkeye has to call to pick up the ribs and sauce, someone finds out about them, and they have to negotiate to keep it a secret. The person who found out about it ends up getting some of the ribs and barbecue sauce, but when he asks for coleslaw, and Hawkeye tells him that he forgot to order it, the person says, "You called all the way to Chicago and no coleslaw?" By the time the ribs and barbecue sauce get to the 4077th, and they have them on the table and ready to eat, more wounded people enter the compound. They then have to drag Hawkeye away as he says, "But the ribs...they're right there, and we have them...we called all the way to Chicago...we had to trick Mildrid, one rib, a tiny rib, just one little riblet ..."

Notes

Although they are listed in the opening credits, neither Larry Linville nor Loretta Swit appear in this episode.

This restaurant really exists in Chicago. It is not fictional.
