William E. Peterson is a Republican member of the Illinois Senate, representing the 26th district since 1993, and currently serves as the Assistant Minority Leader. Peterson previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1983 to 1993. Peterson has announced that he will not seek reelection in 2008.

Peterson is the longtime Supervisor for Vernon Township in Lake County, IL and he will continue holding this position after his retirement from the Senate in 2009.
