Leonid Afremov (
Vitebsk , 1955) is aBelarus born, Israeli modern painter who creates unique landscapes, cityscapes and figures using a palette knife rather than a brush to paint.Born in Marc Chagall's birthplace, Leonid Afremov graduated from the famous
Vitebsk Art School , an art school that was founded byChagall in 1921 and includes many notable patrons such asMalevich andKandinsky . However, after discovering that onlycommunist propaganda posters would sell in theSoviet Union , Afremov moved toIsrael in 1990. Fact|date=March 2007 Within two weeks, he had found a job in an advertising agency painting billboards, but again Afremov faced problems on the eve of an exhibition, his studio was broken into and vandalised.
