Alonso Véner (born August 22, 1976) is a Latin American poet and writer. He currently lives in Japan but has said that he does not intend to stay there indefinitely.

Biography

Véner was born in San José, Costa Rica, where he attended psychology school and got his degree, but in 1997 abandoned his career to travel throughout Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, and other Asian countries as well as Mexico and Central America. It was during these trips that he found his inspiration to start his first poetry book.

Later, he returned to Costa Rica where he started the establishment of several literary links all over Latin America, including with the Mexican novelist and poet Carlos Mendez Villalobos. He then started his latest trip to the Orient, this time with the intention to temporarily reside in Japan, a country in which he has found a rich source of inspiration.

Works

In 1998 he started his first work, the Spanish poetry book “Virtudes Escondidas”, a 156 page paperback published in 2003, with a recompilation of the most expressive poems written during one and a half years of constant exploration of his self and existence.

His second poetry work published in 2004, a collection named “Pesares Cotidianos” emerged as his most significant approach to his final literary style, based on the immensity of the universal solitude.

Véner in his third published work “Resurrecciones” maintained the same style reached in his second book, but for this work a reinvention on the descriptive skills is easily noted, bringing by that, a representation of maturity and self-criticism. In August 24th 2007, it was released his latest book of short stories "El Guardian de los Cuervos" (The Guardian of the Ravens).
