- Tim Dorsey
Tim Dorsey (born 1961) is an American
novelist . His writing style is frequently compared to those ofDave Barry andCarl Hiaasen (who both had cameo appearances in his first book, "Florida Roadkill "). Dorsey's books are crime capers in the Florida style pioneered byJohn D. MacDonald .Biography
Dorsey was born in
Indiana but moved toFlorida at an early age. He grew up in Riviera Beach, a small town in Palm Beach county just north of West Palm Beach. He attended
Auburn University , where he became the editor of "The Auburn Plainsman ", thestudent newspaper . Dorsey graduated in 1983 with aBachelor's degree in Transportation. After graduation, he moved toMontgomery, Alabama and served as a police reporter for a local newspaper. in 1987, Dorsey relocated toTampa, Florida and became a reporter for "The Tampa Tribune ". Until he resigned from the paper in 1999 to write full-time, he worked variously as a political reporter, a correspondent in the "Tribune"' s Tallahassee bureau, copydesk editor, and finally the night metro editor and news coordinator.Currently, Dorsey lives in Tampa with his wife and two daughters. He is a
Boston Red Sox fan due to his mother and thenun s from aparochial school he attended as a child being fromMassachusetts . [interview "In the footsteps of subversives" by Anna Mundow, "Boston Globe " February 25, 2007.]erge Storms
All of Dorsey's novels to date feature Serge Storms as the primary character. The character has several coexisting
mental illness es that render him obsessive, psychopathic, and frequently homicidal, but Storms serves as theanti-hero in Dorsey's works due to his strong sense ofmoral absolutism and justice. Serge is quite intelligent, and frequently devises wildly inventive ways of condemning villains (or at least who he perceives as such) to death. In early July 2008, a listing for aFlorida Roadkill film briefly appeared onimdb.com and was quickly removed. Its cast listing includedPaul Rudd as Serge andSeth Rogan asColeman .External links
