Edward Gothard (
October 1 ,1904 —January 17 ,1979 ) was an Englishcricket er. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. He was born in Burton-on-Trent and died inBirmingham .Gothard was the elder statesman of the Derbyshire team, having represented Staffordshire in the Minor Counties Championship twenty years earlier. He also had represented Nottinghamshire in a match "against" Derbyshire in 1945.
Gothard made his first-class Derbyshire debut as captain in a match in May-June 1947. The innings victory was to mark the start of a good run for the Derbyshire team, as they finished in fifth place in the 1947 County Championship.
Gothard, 43 years old at this time, was a fixture in the team until the end of the 1948 season, when he retired from first-class cricket. In spite of his age, he was a skilful lower-order batsman. He had one half-century under his belt from two years of first-class cricket.
