Severomorsk-1

(also referred to as Safonovo or simply Severomorsk) is a naval air base in Murmansk Oblast, Russia located 4 km south of Severomorsk. It one of the largest airfields on the Kola Peninsula, second only to Olenya. It can accommodate over 40 bombers and a small number of fighters.

The main operating unit was 967 MRAP (967th Naval Air Reconnaissance Regiment) operating Tu-22M and Tu-16 aircraft, and 24 OPLAPDD (24th Independent Long Range Anti-Submarine Aviation Regiment) operating Il-38 aircraft [cite web| title = Aviatsiya VMF | publisher = Aviabaza KPOI. | url = http://airbase.ru/squad/russia/sea/ ] .

Google Earth high-resolution images suggest a drawdown of forces on this base has taken place, with only transport aircraft on the airfield.
