Joseph W. Holden (1844-1875) was a
North Carolina politician in the nineteenth century. He was the son ofWilliam Woods Holden .During the
American Civil War , Holden served in theConfederate States Army and was captured by Union forces atRoanoke Island . [Folk and Shaw. "W.W. North Carolina House of Representatives fromWake County . Holden served asSpeaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives while his party controlled the state legislature in 1868-1870, but he resigned before the end of his term.
