LORAN-C transmitter Searchlight is the Yankee secondary of the U.S. West Coast LORAN-C Chain (GRI 9940)and the Whiskey secondary of the South Central U.S. Chain (GRI 9610). The station, established in 1976, consists of four, 700-foot transmission towers. It transmits 540 kW from 13.5 miles south of Searchlight, Nevada at (coord|35|19|18|N|114|48|17|W|region:US-NV_type:landmark|display=inline,title). There are five active duty and 2 reserve duty Coast Guard personnel stationed at LORSTA Searchlight. The station's Officer in Charge is a Chief Electronics Technician.
