Spellbinder (real name Erica Fortune) is a fictional character in the Marvel Universe.

Fictional character biography

When working as teacher at New York University, professor Andrew King noticed that Erica possessed a latent telekinetic ability. They were visited by Snaarl and Snugg, two alien slaves of a spellbinder known as Zxaxz. When Zxaxz appeared and battled Erica, and she gained possession of his power rings, which awakened her telekinetic abilities and allowed her to defeat Zxaxz.

Erica, now known as Spellbinder, learned how to control her powers. When Zxaxz returned to fight her, she defeated him with the aid of the New Mutants and Lila Cheney. A third spellbinder known as the Other watched the two of them battle and planned to defeat them both. Spellbinder and Zxaxz joined forces to defeat the being known as the Other.

The Initiative

Erica is being considered as a "potential recruit" for the program, according to "Civil War: Battle Damage Report".

Powers and Abilities

Erica possesses the power of telekinesis, which is the ability to manipulate matter with the energy of her thoughts. When she gained the Rings of Power from the alien Spellbinder, Zxaxz, her powers fully awakened and were quite potent. She can fire high intensity energy blasts from her hands or manipulate and rebuild matter on a molecular level. The Ring of Order can boost the power of Erica's molecular manipulation while the Ring of Chaos magnifies her energy projection potential. Wearing the rings will eventually cause permanent amplification of the wielder's power over time, but they will always be greater while wearing them.

Erica also makes use of Zxaxz's Cloak of Flight, which manipulates air currents that allows whoever wears it to fly.
