Louise Browne

Louise Browne

Louise Patricia Browne (b. 16 March, 1952). She is a West Indies cricketer who played eight women's test matches and eight women's one-day internationals for the Trinidad and Tobago women's cricket team and the West Indian women's cricket team in the 1970s. She is now Louise Browne-Jackson (married to Godfrey Jackson, former national rugby player for Trinidad and Tobago). She has one son, Ricardo. Louise was named captain of the first ever West Indies women's cricket team. She led the team in a series against Australia in 1976. Both test matches, played in Jamaica, were drawn. Later that year, she again led the West Indies women on a tour of India. That series of six test matches also ended in a draw. In the year 2000, Louise was named one of the hundred top sporting personalities of the century in Trinidad and Tobago.

She is the 5th of twelve children (8 girls and 4 boys) though one of her sisters died in 1989. Like Louise, two of her younger sisters, Beverly Mary Browne and Ann Gertrude Browne-John also represented Trinidad and Tobago and the West Indies at women's crcket. Ann also coached the West Indies women's cricket team and is part of the International Cricket Council. Her nephew Kwan Dwayne Browne has been made coach of the Trinidad and Tobago National Hockey Team.
