Nicholas Royle

Nicholas Royle (born 1963) is an English novelist.

Born in Manchester, Royle has written five novels - Counterparts, Saxophone Dreams, The Matter of the Heart, The Director’s Cut and Antwerp. He also claims to have written more than 100 short stories, which have appeared in a variety of anthologies and magazines. He himself has edited twelve anthologies including A Book of Two Halves, The Tiger Garden: A Book of Writers’ Dreams, The Time Out Book of New York Short Stories, and Dreams Never End (Tindal Street Press). His latest book is a short story collection, Mortality, which like Antwerp is published by Serpent's Tail.

He is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing in the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University and has been Chair of Judges for the Manchester Fiction Prize since it was launched in 2009.

Royle is married with two children and lives in Manchester.
