Jean-Georges remains one of the few restaurants in the city awarded four stars by theNew York Times . [Jean-Georges Vongerichten ] The current executive chef is Mark LaPico.The restaurant is divided into two main dining areas – the 70-seat Jean Georges dining room and the Nougatine Café bar-lounge, a slightly more casual dining room. In good weather there is also seating on the Mistral Terrace. The restaurant was designed by architect and restaurateur Adam Tihany. Menu
It includes a Prix-Fixe Menu with a Two-course lunch ($28; each additional course, $12) and a four-course dinner ($95). There are Tasting Menus. Two seven-course tasting menus are available: the Jean-Georges menu of signature dishes, and a seasonal menu highlighting fresh produce, each $148.
Signature dishes include a checkerboard of Hamachi and Yellowfin Tuna, drizzled with Lemon & Garnished with Radishes and Baby Chives; Sauteed Sea Scallops, which sit atop thinly sliced and sauteed Cauliflower are served with a Raisin and Caper Emulsion which marries perfectly with the richness of the fish. Roasted Squab is served with a Corn Pancake topped with a generous slice of Foie Gras, and Loin of Lamb is Dusted with Black Trumpet Mushrooms and served with a Leek Puree. Awards
Besides the aforementioned 4 stars from the Times, Jean-Georges has received the
James Beard award for Best Chef and Best New Restaurant, andEsquire Magazine voted Chef Vongerichten the Chef of the Year in1997 . Jean-Georges restaurant also holds 3 Michelin stars, one of 3 NYC restaurants currently holding the accolade.
