Lorraine Daston is an American science historian, presently the the executive director of the
Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) inBerlin . A member of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1993, Daston balances her time inGermany with a visiting professorship in TheCommittee on Social Thought at theUniversity of Chicago .Daston's work has long defined the cutting edge of research into the
history of science .She is married to the German psychologist
