The Shrews

The Shrews

The Shrews were fictional characters in the animated series The Animals of Farthing Wood. They did not appear in any of The Animals of Farthing Wood books, a series written by Colin Dann.

The Shrews survived the journey to White Deer Park, though they were largely unnoticed. Their only notable appearances were during discussions about the mice leaving the group and on the approach to the Motorway, when they remarked on the selfishness of the larger animals. In the episode "So Near And Yet So Far", one of the Shrews, one of the Fieldmice and the two Voles become separated from the group and are nearly killed by a lawn mower. Kestrel finds them, but it is Adder who encourages them to move.

While out hunting in White Deer Park, after the Cat has come from Badger, Vixen and Fox almost catch a Shrew, who tells them to remember the oath. It is unclear whether this is really a Farthing shrew, or just one claiming to be for protection. Both Shrews are seen celebrating with the other animals after Fox's triumph over the poachers.
