Legislative elections will be held in Qatar some time in 2009, although they were originally planned for 2008. [http://www.mherrera.org/elections.htm] The electoral law was adopted in May 2008 and contains the following provisions: 30 of the 45 members of the Consultative Assembly of Qatar would be elected in the future, people from the age of 18 upwards will be able to vote and vote-buying is outlawed. The other 15 members of the Consultative Assembly will continue to be appointed by the emir.
