website = [http://www.cornwallschools.com/middleschool.cfm School website]Cornwall Central Middle School educates students in grades five through eight in the
Cornwall Central School District in Orange County,New York . It is located a few blocks fromNew York Military Academy on Main Street in the town of Cornwall, near the Cornwall-on-Hudson village line. It is one of the fewmiddle school s in New York to use the district type in its name. The building is organized with four wings, housing each grade, radiating out from two central
courtyard s next to thecafeteria s. One wall along thecorridor that leads from the front office area to thelibrary is done inwood paneling, a somewhat unusual material for a school building interior. Classrooms in the eastern (seventh grade and eighth grade ) wings also boast sloping ceilings, another distinctive touch. The school also has a production lab and a communication lab. The school also holds two computer labs. The CCMS Class of 2007(CCHS Class of 2011) was the first class to complete the new 5-8 program here.
Building history
The building was built in 1957 as the district's high school. Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw & Folly were the
architect s, and John Rowe Construction thegeneral contractor . A large addition was built on the southwest corner in 1964 by Neuss Construction and designed by Flemming & Silverman. In 1989locker room s and science labs were added to the northwest corner. In its final years prior to the opening of the district's new high school, its population included eighth graders. The sixth and seventh graders had been attending class in the building that now houses
Willow Avenue Elementary School .External links
