Eton Park Capital Management was founded in November 2004 by former Goldman Sachs partner Eric Mindich as a hedge fund that invests in the public and private markets. Up to 30% of the fund can be invested in private market transactions, and investors in the fund generally have committed their capital for between three and five years - considerably longer than the quarterly redemption notices that are characteristic of many hedge funds.

In November 2007, the $300 million R6 Capital Management fund and Eton Park announced that R6 would wind down its business and transfer its assets to Eton Park.
