Ron Hood

Ron Hood

Ron Hood (born 1969) is a former Republican legislator in the Ohio House of Representatives. He represented the 91st District. He is currently running for Ohio Congressional District 7.

Ron Hood, a former four-term State Representative, graduated from The Ohio State University College of Business in 1991. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with dual majors in Marketing and Economics.

In 1992, Hood ran for an open seat in the Ohio House of Representatives but lost that election by a narrow margin to a well-funded, big-labor-supported opponent.

In 1994, he again sought election to the Ohio House of Representatives. This time, he defeated the incumbent State Representative in one of the most highly watched state legislative races in Ohio.

As a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, Ron worked hard to improve Ohio’s job climate and create economic opportunities for all Ohioans.

On tax reform issues, he voted for and worked aggressively to pass the Ohio State Income Tax Reduction Fund and to repeal Ohio’s Estate Tax (the so called death tax). He was also an outspoken opponent of the Taft tax hikes.

On jobs and economic development issues, he strongly supported and pushed for Tort Reform and Worker’s Compensation Reform.

Hood sought and obtained a seat on the House Commerce and Labor Committee where he authored legislation repealing the state prevailing wage law – efforts that directly led to the passage of the prevailing wage exemption for school construction (S.B. 102) in 1997.

He also joined State Representative Ron Young in the fight to prohibit Union-Only project labor agreements in Ohio (H.B. 101 – Right To Work for Ohio contractors).

In addition, he served on the House Criminal Justice Committee where he fought for the rights of the unborn as well as worked to preserve our Second Amendment freedom.

In 2001, Ron married Michal Marie Dean of Xenia and soon after relocated to central Ohio where he returned to the legislature for an additional term in 2005.

During his four terms as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, Ron Hood distinguished himself by being named the 1995-96 Outstanding Conservative Freshman Legislator. He received the Watchdog of the Treasury Award four times and was named Friend of the Taxpayer three times.

In 1999, he received the National Right To Work Legislator of the Year Award. In 2000, he received the Frank Lausche Young Conservative Award.

Ron Hood resides in Ashville, Ohio, with his wife Michal, daughter Ellah and newborn son Edward. [http://www.ronhood.com]
