It is 10.7 miles (17.2 km) north east of
Charing Cross and near to the boundary with theLondon Borough of Redbridge .It was featured on the
ITV1 series "Essex Wives " a programme about women in the area who were in business or fairly well-off. WithLoughton andChigwell , it is said to form part of the Essex golden triangle of wealthy places.Buckhurst Hill is served by
Buckhurst Hill tube station which is now on theCentral Line of the London Underground. The railway line was opened in 1856 as part of theEastern Counties Railway and it was the middle-class development that resulted from this line that gave Buckhurst Hill its typical Victorian ambience.From 1890 to 1933, it had an
Urban District Council of its own. In 1933 to 1974 it formed together withLoughton andChigwell theChigwell Urban District . Since 1996 it has again had a parish council of its own.It is also home to Buckhurst Hill Football Club.
