Fran Crippen (born
April 17 ,1984 inBryn Mawr, Pennsylvania ) is a freestyleswimmer from theUnited States , who won two individual silver medals in the 400 and 1500m freestyle at the 2003 Pan American Games inSanto Domingo ,Dominican Republic . He represented the United States at the Pan Pacific Championships in 2006 where he earned a silver medal in the 10k open water swim. In 2007, he earned a gold medal in the 10k distance event at the Pan American Games in in Rio, Brazil. Most recently, Fran won the 2008 U.S. Open water nationals.He has three sisters who are competitive swimmers. His sister,
Maddy Crippen , was a 2000 Olympian in the 400 individual medley and swam forVillanova University . His sister, Claire Crippen, is a national finalist, an NCAA All-American and currently swims for the University of Virginia. His third sister, Teresa Crippen, is a Pan American Games Champion in the 200 meter Backstroke and U.S. National Team member. Crippen himself swam for theUniversity of Virginia where he was an 11-time All-American and two-timeAtlantic Coast Conference (ACC) swimmer of the year. Crippen currently represents the Mission Viejo Nadadores and coach Bill Rose. He also represents TYR Sport, Inc.References
