Ólavur Jakobsen

Ólavur Jakobsen, classical guitarist, born 1964 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. Studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen with Ingolf Olsen and received his diploma exam in 1995. Further studies in Paris with French guitarist Roland Dyens. Has participated in masterclasses with e.g. Sir Julian Bream and David Russell.

Worked for some years as a freelance musician in Copenhagen and was member of the Copenhagen based Corona Guita Quartet touring extensively as soloist and chamber musician.

Has premièred a vast number of compositions by Danish and Faroese composers e.g. Per Nørgård, Axel Borup-Jørgensen, Pierre Dørge, Sunleif Rasmussen, Edvard N. Debess and Kristian Blak.

Worked as a sessions musician with a number of popular artists as well as Icelandic Ensemble CAPUT and Danish orchestra Collegium Musicum as well as arranging and producing.

He is co-founder of the Faroese chamber ensemble Aldubáran.
