Zackquill Morgan

Colonel Zackquill Morgan (March 20, 1735 - January 1, 1795) was a son of Colonel Morgan Morgan, the first known white settler in what would become the U.S. state of West Virginia. Zackquill founded Morgantown, West Virginia which is located in Monongalia County.

His wife, Drusilla Springer, descended from the family that founded Wilmington, Delaware. George Washington met Morgan on a trip to Morgantown. The Morgan family is known as the "First Family of West Virginia" and one of their descendants was a Governor of West Virginia. Most notably, the great grandson of Zackquill Morgan was Francis Harrison Pierpont who was Governor of both Virginia and West Virginia and is known as "Father of West Virginia"..
