Though some fans expected Kierra's debut to be a more traditional affair (due largely to the musical dynasty of
The Clark Sisters ), "I Owe You" surprised many with exhuberant contemporary gospel songs like "You Don't Know" and "Let Go". Only two of the album's tracks, "Done Did It" and "Praise Offering", made reference to the aforementioned traditional style. Nonetheless, the album served to sate fans of traditional and contemporary gospel stylings alike, and Kierra's fan base widened quickly after the album's release."You Don't Know"
In 2001, Kierra's mother
Karen Clark-Sheard was faced with a life-threatening crisis when a blood vessel burst during a scheduled hernia surgery. Her doctors only gave her a 2% chance of survival due to her complications. After the blood clot was surgically removed, Clark-Sheard fell into a coma. The coma lasted a week, but she made a miraculous recovery. Clark-Sheard's near-death experience is mentioned several times in Kierra's song "You Don't Know".Track listing
