Lucia Bride of Sweden

Lucia Bride of Sweden

National Lucia Bride of Sweden (in Swedish: "Sveriges Lucia") is a competition for Swedish females. The contest is usually held in churches or in the Swedish open air museum Skansen.

The first competition took part in 1948, but no information is available until 1973.

The competition takes place December 13th (St. Lucia's Day) and the contestants, two runner ups and the winner sing Christmas carols during Christmas Day.

The competition is based on personal interviews and voice capacity of singing gospels and carols.

Yvonne Ryding, titleholder of the 1983 contest, also took part in the Miss Sweden pageant the following year and went to win Miss Universe.

In December 13 2008, the current titleholder, Madeleine Gustafsson, will crown the new winner.
