- Barr Subdivision
The Barr Subdivision is a
railroad line owned and operated byCSX Transportation in theU.S. state s ofIndiana andIllinois . The line runs fromWillow Creek, Indiana (near Portage), west toBlue Island, Illinois , [ [http://web.archive.org/web/20030120052123/www.trainweb.org/csxtimetables/Chicago/Barr.html CSX Timetables: Barr Subdivision] ] along a formerBaltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) line. At its east end, it junctions with thePorter Subdivision andGarrett Subdivision ; its west end is at the south end of theBlue Island Subdivision , with access to theNew Rock Subdivision viatrackage rights over theMetra Rock Island District and access to theIndiana Harbor Belt Railroad . Junctions exist with theLake Subdivision atPine Junction (nearGary, Indiana ) and with theChicago Heights Subdivision at Harvey Junction (near Blue Island).History
The line east of Pine Junction was opened by the
Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Chicago Railway in 1874.
