- SF Connect
San Francisco Connect (also known as SF Connect) is a
nonprofit organization based inSan Francisco, California . It was inspired by the success of Project Homeless Connect which it now incorporates. It's goal is to solve major problems in San Francisco throughgrassroots volunteering. It works with both government and commercial agencies in the city.The mission of SF Connect is to mobilize residents and sectors of the community to improve San Francisco. SF Connect works by providing opportunities for residents to volunteer their talent and time for the City and by developing partnerships between the private, public and social (nonprofit) sectors.
There are four Connect Projects within the SF Connect Program: Homeless, Tech, Green and Youth:
Homeless Connect is a national best practice model that originated in October 2004 under Mayor
Gavin Newsom . Every other month over 1000 community volunteers partner with city government, non-profits and the private sector to provide a one-stop shop of health and human services for chronically homeless San Franciscans. Homeless connect has been adopted as a national model by 100 cities across the United States. Puerto Rico, Canada and Australia have also adopted Project Homeless Connect as a models.Green Connect focuses on improving the environment in San Francisco. Through existing volunteer activities and pilot programs, participants develop and maintain neighborhood parks, street gardens, street trees, and other public spaces.
Tech Connect promotes digital inclusion and helps residents to benefit from access to the Internet and information technology. Activities include the provision of access to the internet, affordable computers and hardware, technical support and training and community based content and services.
Youth & Families Connect links schools and youth to the community and attempts to improve the academic and employment opportunities available for youth. The focus is on getting community members to donate time and money to organizations that directly benefit youth, and on providing work experience opportunities.
