Stella Ramsaroop is a columnist for
Kaieteur News , one of three daily newspapers published in Guyana, South America, and a freelance writer.Ramsaroop was born in
St. Louis, MO and married a Guyanese in 1984.Writing career
After writing and editing for publications in the US, Ramsaroop became a regular columnist for
Kaieteur News . Her column, entitled "Stella Says" is published three times a week (Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday). Her initial columns for Kaieteur News were debates with one of Guyana's most respected columnists,Freddie Kissoon .Writing Focus
Ramsaroop writes political and social columns with an emphasis on issues facing Guyanese women. In her July 20, 2006 column entitled "Stella Says…How Does Guyana Measure Up in Gender Equality?", Ramsaroop writes "According to a press release on Guyana's progress from August 2005 by the UN's Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the nation still struggles with even the most basic of women's rights – protection against violence. The report said Bibi Shadick, Minister of Labour, Human Services and Social Security explained that the lack of financial resources was the most restricting factor to the protection of women."
