Susanne Albrecht (born
March 1 ,1951 ) is a German former terrorist and member of theRed Army Faction .Born to a wealthy family in
Hamburg, Germany , Albrecht attended theUniversity of Hamburg studyingsociology andpsychology . Becoming acquainted with several members of the Red Army Faction, she was a participant in the murder of her godfatherFact|date=May 2008 and president of theDresdner Bank Jürgen Ponto onJuly 30 ,1977 . A longtime friend of the family, she was able to gain entry allowingBrigitte Mohnhaupt andChristian Klar into the house. Once inside, Albrecht and her partners intended to kidnap Ponto for ransom, however they killed him when Ponto began resisting.During the next year, Albrecht stayed at a Palestinian training camp in
Yemen before traveling toMons, Belgium with membersWerner Lotze andRolf Clemens Wagner and failed to assassinate thenNATO commander-in-chief GeneralAlexander Haig onJune 25 ,1979 .In 1980, like many other RAF members, Albrecht left the Federal Republic of Germany via
Prague using a false passport under the name Ingrid Jäger. Provided with a false identity by the state security, she settled inCottbus where she worked in an engineering university as an English translator. She eventually married a scientist and were living inKöthen when, in 1986, she was recognized when West German television reports were broadcast regarding information on the Red Army Faction.Although quickly resettled in
Berlin by public security, with the fall of theBerlin Wall later that year and the reunification of Germany, the German government began issuing arrests for suspected terrorist members. Albrecht soon was found living as a housewife under the name "Becker" when she was finally arrested, the first of eight arrests in a 10-day period, in front of her apartment onJune 6 ,1990 . She was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the upper state court inStuttgart , however she served only half her term when she was paroled in 1996.Today Albrecht works as a German language teacher in a
Bremen primary school under an assumed name.References
