Ivory John Webb is the name of the deputy who was tried for attempted voluntary manslaughter after shooting an unarmed passenger (Elio Carrion) of a car driven by Luis Fernando Escobedo.

police on a high speed chase in aCorvette with speeds exceeding 100 MPH which ended when he crashed into a fence. TheSan Bernardino County sheriff's department confiscated video footage shot by a local resident and have been tight lipped with the details of the incident, but the footage shows passenger Elio Carrion on the ground apparently cooperating with police saying "I'm in themilitary ," and "I'm on your side," before officer Webb shouts "Stand up!" several times and shoots Elio Carrion as he begins to comply by standing up.Despite a video footage of the shooting, the incident received surprisingly little attention in the media. Some speculate Fact|date=April 2007 that the reason for the lack of coverage in the media is because of Officer Webb's
African American heritage, where similar incidences involving white police officers have generated public outcry and even riots. Also his father, Ivory John Webb Sr., is a former Compton Police Chief [PoliceOne News] .He was acquitted of all charges by a
San Bernardino County Jury, on Thursday,June 28 ,2007 . [Associated Press]According to Carrion's testimony, he told Webb, with expletives, that he had more training than Webb and that the officer had "better believe" him. After that comment Webb lowered his voice and answered in a calmer tone. The officer said, "OK, get up, get up," Carrion confirmed the officer's command by repeating it back. "As I get up, he shoots me."
A civil law suit against Webb is currently pending.
