Casi se muere

"Casi se muere" is a 2003 novel in the "Pobre Ana" series by Lisa Ray Turner and Blaine Ray, written in the Spanish language. The story describes Ana going to Chile this time instead of Mexico, where she saves a life. This book is also in French and many other languages.

Characters

*Ana Silva: She attends Torrance High School in Hermosa Beach, California, but then she sends a petition to New York trying to get the opportunity to go to Chile. She is accepted and then goes. Ana'a favorite class is Spanish because she likes to learn new words and she likes her teacher.
*Pepe Ayala: Boy from Chile that speaks some English. Friends with Ana.
*Teresa: Her friend in California.
*Alice (Alicia): Her real name is Alice but everybody calls her Alicia because that is her name in Spanish class. Ana rights her letters a lot. Just about her every day experiences.
*Jaime Campos: He is the bully that lives in Chile.
*Senora Hawkins: Ana's Spanish teacher in California. She is Ana's favorite teacher. She is the one who tells Ana about this opportunity.
*Ana's parents: They are both nice and they both work at Mercy Hospital.

PLOT. In the book, Ana saves Pepe's life by giving him the Heimlich when he is choking on a piece of meat. It ends up hitting this bully named Jaime Compos. Then the bully starts teasing both Pepe and Ana. In the end Pepe ends up saving Jaime from choking. then they all become friends.

Random:in Ana's school they wear uniforms. It is the same when she goes to the school in Chile. Most all schools in Chile wear uniforms. The school that she attends in Chile is a public school. Ana goes to Chile for the months of July, August and September. Even though it is hot in California at this time it is cold in Chile. Ana sees many statues of Bernardo Higgins when she is in Chile. that is because he is like the George Washington of Chile. he originally came from Ireland but then came to Chile and was a true leader. in Chile there favorite food is empanadas. they look like hamburgers without bread. Independence day in Chile is September 18th. Ana gets to be a part of that in the book. it is a very big deal to them.the capital of Chile is Santiago ( they say that a lot in the book). There are a lot of Italian people in Chile. the largest mountain in the world is in Chile. They always do a dance in Chile called "la Cueca."
